The Fairfax Workers’ Coalition will be meeting on April 5, 2023, both virtually and in person. Because of the large influx of new members, we are a day or so away from determining an appropriate site in the Fairfax area. There will also be virtual participation.

The response to our messages has been gratifying. So many people from all across the County have expressed interest and excitement in knowing they will have an alternative to the SEIU that is independent and member-owned, a union that actually works for them on all levels of organizational life. People have been telling us we’re the first group that’s ever responded, that actually understands their issues and will represent them.

We’re excited to report that our Secretary Treasurer, Jon Miskell, a founder of our union, will be taking on the role of Director of Benefits. We will be taking nominations to fill the remainder of his term until September 2023. Jon has an extensive background in insurance and benefits which will be a hallmark of FWC going forward. In addition to the disability and other benefits we have now (including free Abenity membership), FWC is going to be working on additional life insurance coverage without charge and partnering on full health/body scans for early detection of cancer and disease.

In addition, we will be taking nominations for three additional director positions to help coordinate growth as we continue to expand.

Our agenda will be as follows:

  • New Members
  • Treasurer’s report
  • Membership issue report (pay, Board actions, pay compression, organizing, and more)
  • Collective Bargaining update
  • Upcoming Events (Retiree and Member Honoree Event)
  • Old and New Business

There’s a lot to cover here. It’s a great time to be part of FWC, as we stand up for County workers as no one has before.
